This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to coordinate the operations of a first response team. Coordinators will organise workplace emergency response procedures and communicate with external emergency agencies.

A first response teamprepares for and responds to emergency incidents that pose an immediate risk to a power generation facility. The operation of a first response team is to support emergency service agencies.

Competency in this unit requires the ability to coordinate a workplace emergency team, cooperate with other emergency services personnel, evaluate an emergency, respond to an emergencyand to report the outcomes of an emergency response. Individuals will, in general, work as an operator, with coordination responsibilities, in a power generation facility.

Power generation plant operators are typically trained and authorised to isolate, prepare plant and issue permits to work.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

The application of the skills and knowledge described in this unit may require a licence or training permit to practice in the workplace where work is carried out on gas and electrical installations. Additional conditions may apply under state and territory legislative and regulatory licensing requirements.

Assessment Tasks

Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.
